The fish hangs in what could be the blackness of space were it not for the patches of color revealing a light source filtered through the water of the tank.

Shot wide open the plane of sharpest focus lies on the curve of scales near the tail, leaving the eye just soft. This was not intended or foreseen at the time, but looking now I'd have it no other way.
